Prose – NightFall

– NightFall –

With wings as solar flares he casts his flight,
celestial body burning across the darkest night.
The colours of his cosmic emotions
play out across the spectrum,
change his shape and form
to know the feeling of immortality,
while satellites of his history
orbit him like lesser stars.
He is the lover’s dream,
but waking too soon,
the morning sunlight
reveals an unfinished eternity.

Reduced to human body,
he falls from greatest height.
Only his cloak of stars remains
to cover him from those darker nights.
What once was a body immortal
is covered now by soot and ash,
marked by the truth of death,
with a splash of molten metal
to galvanize his flesh as armour.
When his human body creaks,
wakes him from his dreams of wonder,
I will be there to remind him
that it is only the wind.
