Prose – Summer Lover

– Summer Lover –

I lay in summer fields warm with passion,
collecting my lovers to me like flowers,
grasping their fragile blossoms with lusting hands,
the scent of them warm and luscious upon my lips.

But like those flowers of summer,
this love shall die away,
hearts passing from colour into grey.
At the end of these warmer seasons,
only the cold earth will remain.

Press me close between the folds of your secret pages.
Leave behind a single petal for me,
memories of that flower which I have taken,
memories of your love for me
when the moments between us have faded.
