Prose – With Empty Hands and Open Hearts

-With Empty Hands and Open Hearts-

The ways in which we realize
that other people care for us
often rely on the care
which we are then placed
in the position to return.

How strange is the human condition,
the motivation to override our circadian rhythm
for these sociosexual revelations,
these rituals of passion and flesh,
memory in moments shared with joy and grief.

Our emotional self indulgence
comes with a great responsibility;
A promise can be any size,
but it is the weight of the heart that gives it
which determines the full impact.

I have entered into you
with empty hands and open heart.
I am worth only as much as I am able to give;
That promise of my loyalty,
in whatever may pass through our time.
