– The Benefit of Self Doubt –
Motives in the ulterior
are genuine nonetheless.
Where shall we draw the line
between courtesy and honesty?
At what cost to my dignity
do I continue to provide you
with that false image?
True love is more loyal
than frivolous affections,
more than a compromise of compassions.
There is no resolution
in that temperamental fascination.
I see beyond you now;
I exist only within the confines
of your perceptions,
skewed and obscured
from my own directions.
The liberties of our trust have been
an agreement of mutual delusion.
You give me presence of body
and peace of mind.
Meanwhile,
I give you the benefit
of my self doubt.
