– Shades of Her –
She speaks in bygones,
chasing ghosts in the sunshine,
running blind from those
who project their fears
into her willing vessel.
Her body has succumbed
to time and matter,
heart now hollow as the void
for the absence of those
smaller acts of kindness.
Before she came to freedom,
it was like living in a prison;
Years stolen by that fear,
years of surviving
without a trace of love.
But were the sky always so dark,
she would not be able to see herself
in silhouette against the sun.
And so she lives these days
in shades of blue and grey,
longing for shining moments
within those golden rays.
