Prose – WinterSong

– WinterSong –

You lift me up high,
close to your desire,
skin to skin,
heart to heart.
I watch your face ask of me the question,
and I reply with my eyes aglow;
Take me in the cold and fading twilight,
here upon this frozen ground,
under the gently falling snow.

This love has come to me too cold and slow.
My smile hides it for you better than the snow.
I would take what little of it you could give me,
all that you would leave behind for me,
and for this brief moment my hesitation falls away.

Touch of your lips;
I taste a hint of sorrow there.
Is it only in this loss
that you have finally found me?
Is it only in my absence
that you can feel the depth of my desire?
And when our moment is over,
we walk bravely away,
our faces warmly dressed with smiles and laughter,
knowing in our frozen hearts
that we will never see each other again.
