– X/Rx –
As my lover arrives,
I hide away the remedies
of my human ailments,
these concoctions and potions
that I must rely upon to sustain my vitality;
I pray that he will not taste
their bitterness upon my lips,
that poison which has tainted my tender flesh.
I pray that he will not see me
through the shield of my pride,
so vulnerable to those mortal pains.
It’s a knifes’ edge act on which I play,
coddled in a state of chemical calm.
Get up,
keep going,
keep moving forward.
It’s only pain,
and the fear of fallible flesh,
the failing of a heart,
the fallout of a star.
It’s only a human being,
being human.
