– Hiraeth, and Hereafter –
As a peasant and a pilgrim;
My bones ache,
fragile,
frail,
weary at every step I take.
As a preacher and a poet;
I must remember myself
in these moments of revulsion,
that what beauty has become of my pain
will still remain tomorrow.
As a peddler and a piper;
They call me to their madness and whim.
I would rather be a traveller now,
a stranger in a land of savage hearts
than remain stationary here
in the depths of their loss.
As a prince to a pauper;
This is the loss and longing.
Broken down to parts,
I am the sum of all my past equations.
I must once again begin to rebuild
the shape of what I have yet to become.
