– Defensive marginalization –
Tolerance of the individual identity is long dead.
In its place now sits a code of behaviour
that mimics a common courtesy,
a broken schematic of the politically incorrect,
a list of the honourably corrupt so tall
that only those who walk
in the high streets can read it,
while those of us still living the reality
are left walking in their shadows.
Whatever the original goal
of these allied movements,
their messages have been corrupted
by those we have relayed it through,
by those who now seek to claim the movement
in the image of their own chivalry.
Our shared histories have been diluted
downward and downward through their hands,
until they are no longer ours to tell.
Like a game of broken telephone,
we leave the receiver hanging on the edge.
What have any of us really accomplished,
in rallying a pantheon of fools and bigots around us,
those who we have defined as these so called allies?
They are encouraged to speak out,
but so often have so little to say,
and now it is those voices whom we have
encouraged to speak out on our behalf
that are talking overtop of us,
that are taking the truth of our lives away.
