Prose – Love in Liminality

– Love in Liminality –

I don’t know how not to be
what you so often are to me,
bound by a fatalistic fallacy
that has come to stand between
the moments of joy
which we seek to share.

Is this all there will be left of us,
a candle once burnt?
Is this all that will remain,
this bitter sadness and hurt?

I am still locked in love with you,
but you have put away the key.
I fear less for the loss of you
than for the feeling of this purgatory,
held forever in a love of liminality.
