Prose – Things I Learned From My Father

– Things I learned From My Father –

– All of the most strange, bold and non-conforming women are also the most powerful.

– All of those most powerful women are the most frightening thing to the men who would want to control them.

– That strength comes from character, from action, from belief, and not from a definition of gender.

– My father taught me to be utterly uncompromising in what I believed as an individual. He taught me to stand out, to stand up for what I believed was right and true. I am bold. I am strange. I can never conform to the societal definition of the norm. And so by his own scale of belief, I became the source of so much of his fear and self hatred. For everything he made of me, it drove us further apart, left him with such resentment towards me, even as I grew into everything he wanted me to be.
