– Clause of Discovery –
The nature of human existence
is the solitary journey of our self discovery.
But I am afraid of myself alone.
What kind of strength may grow from that isolation?
That fear brings my greatest challenge;
What can I do to love myself
as others cannot find the strength to?
I carry a bitterness that reminds me;
The wounds in my heart will bleed regardless.
They will remain the same depth
regardless of how I choose to dress them,
and dress them I must,
lest I bleed to death
from these thousands of papercuts
that lash across my inner being.
Despite the pain of living,
I am still breathing,
walking wounded in the world,
yet still full of joy when walking in it,
and I know that the world
has only just begun to know itself.
In the moments when I look back
on myself with such loss and longing,
I will try to remember only the better days.
