Prose – Airwaves

– Airwaves –

The sky is shattered;
Blood like water,
falling on the ruins
of a once magnificent city.
Broken halogen shards
litter the thoroughfare,
flash-bangs reflecting
on pupils open wide in fear.
Hopes become prayers,
ever farther from our reach.
The airwaves are occluded;
Reality is tinted,
viewing in shades
of black and red.

The pounding of war drums
drowns out the rhythm
of our living hearts,
frightens our children
with the name of death
upon a martyrs’ lips,
fighting in the names
of laughing Gods,
preaching violence
in the name of tolerance,
their truth told in terror,
taking in parts from others
a holy land that once was whole.
