Prose – Antithesis in Stoicism

– Antithesis in Stoicism –

Our stricter moral code
is so often incompatible
with the sense of
our better virtues.
What is truly virtuous
is not always reserved
for truthful expression;
Only the morals that we shape
in the image of our own being
can define our actions.

Cynicism in the time of plenty
is such a badly learned habit,
and we are so often the antagonists
to our own discomforts.
But I am still walking the city,
carrying this holy lantern
by the light of day,
seeking out an honest man
with which to lead the way.
