– Hospitality and Pain –
These sensual dimensions
that I have lovingly created
have been brutally invaded,
and my sacred hearth
has become an enemy haven.
Buried again in the filth of my past,
I am submerged in the imminent danger
that comes from playing hospitality
to a family now turned stranger.
With the chaos of my former life
so suddenly superimposed
upon my present self and space,
it becomes even easier to see
how far I have come away from it,
how far I have risen above it.
My hearth is still a haven.
My kin is still my keep.
My threshold is my altar of worship,
and those who cross over it
are still my blessed disciples.
My guest is a sacred totem
to these spaces which enfold him,
and I am still a passenger
to the events of my life
which will unfold around me.
