Prose – Icarus Flight

– Icarus Flight –

1: Upward

In want of freedom,
on wings of wax and paper,
I cast off into the wide blue sky,
outward through the emptiness
of the expanding universe.

2: Higher

Toward the sun,
I have flown too close,
burned too bright;
I dissolve,
becoming ash,
remains of dust and vapour.

3: Falling

A brilliant shatter,
a cascade of pinpoint stars.
The remains of my trail
now fades to a pale shimmer
shifting back and forth
across the scattered sky.
