Prose – Across the fields

– Across the fields –

Winsome and windfall,
leaves dropping slowly
to cover a hallowed ground
that once grew only weeds.

I feel the most at ease
when walking with you
across the graves
of my ancestors;
Once battle grounds,
now turned to sunlit fields
of grass and wildflower blooms.

And if the Gods are kind,
may my bones someday also
turn back to this hearty soil,
that such blooms may rise eternally
in your memories of me.
