– Empty Sails –
The day grows longer,
even as the sunlight wanes.
Black waves cut against the dark blue sky,
sharp as shards of obsidian glass.
I am riding each wave higher,
rising from their peaks
and dipping at the bow
as the valleys between the swells
make mountains around me,
nearly drowning me in the shallows.
No answers remain,
here on the edge of the souls’ horizon;
I am waiting for the wind at my back
to carry my ship forward
on these savage seas.
I am making for greater shores,
seeking these raging storms
to fill my empty sails.
