– Introspective –
As the madness takes over me,
I must hold ever harder to a sense of sanity.
I must find a semblance of balance,
both within and without.
Overwhelmed by my past,
I find it most difficult to sustain my better nature,
that altruistic self which seeks to give back
to what goodness has been taken from me.
My greatest challenge has been
the intrusiveness of sadness and defeat;
Overcoming those aspects of me
which so often outweigh the greater good.
How many times will I break a loving heart
in the selfishness of my own needs,
expecting more than one could ever give?
This drifting mindset begins to shift
into something more tangible;
The flux of emotions within me begins to dwindle,
the free flow of my thoughts slows to a stop.
I am overwhelmed by a feeling of wasted potential,
of not finishing the last of what I have started.
That feeling of incompletion permeates my ability
to take the first steps into something new.
I know only the reprieve of my endurance.
What is left behind has become stationary,
and I cannot ever stay still;
To maintain that stationary point in my life
is like a cancer that eats away
at my resolve to live onward.
The cure is to move always forward,
for whatever fate that direction may bring.
