Prose – Seasons Sustain

– Seasons Sustain –

These April showers
make rivers of my pathway;
Rushing waters rising,
tearing at my ankles,
washing down the dust
creased into my clenching fists.
The sharper edges of me
are slowly worn away;
A springtime of storms,
a renewal through the rains.

With summer yet to come,
I find my field is filled with vipers,
and even as they feed upon my flesh,
I know that these creatures too must eat,
must intake that vital energy of life
from which each of us must sustain.
